KOEN SONCK WINS THE BELGIUM NORTH SEA CUP OOSTENDE
11TH - 12TH SEPTEMBER 2010
The North Sea Cup is a racing series with events in Belgium, the Netherlands, France and England. Last weekend it was time for 2 days of racing in the city of Oostende at the Belgian coast. This event also counted as the national Belgian championship.
Koen Sonck ,
It was quite tricky conditions, with lights winds flirting with the 7 knots limit -and strong currents. I managed to use the current to my advantage, and started off with two port starts and two bullets – also thanks to my great down wind speed. I have been working with my light wind performance all summer, and it really paid off using a new Blade FR 12.5 on my Exocet WF 100.
However, after an early- over in the 3rd. race, I had to re-start and found myself at the back of the fleet – but took some risks and gave it all I had to finish 3rd. That gave me the over-all victory in front of Justin Denel, so I am very happy.
