Topic :  Double sandwich construction on usurf 2 - is that true?
Date :  1/14/2010 6:14:25 AM Author : emile

Hi,
I am an Exocet fan and recently, I had a heavy impact of the bottom of my u surf 1 84. I brought it to a experienced shaper for repair. The feedback from the shaper was that while the board is quite strong, he does not believe in a proper sandwich construction on the bottom at least. He also advised that this seems to be a cheaper construction than some of the other brands such as JP or Fanatic made in the same factory. With my usurf 1 damaged, I have already bought a usurf2 84 standard edition, most likely made in 08 or 09 (I understand that you keep your models for 2 years).
Could you please explain in details if possible the structure of the standard usurf 2 model and whether there is a possibility of a lower quality sandwich that you may be using compared to other brands produced in the same factory? Your website does not necessary comment on the structure of the standard edition (i.e. layers of fibre glass...) for instance.
In advance thanks for your honest feedback
Cheers,
Emile

Responding to myself.
After further chat with an Exocet racer and a local distributor, it seems that the quality re construction is there - carbon - fibre glass, you name it. I got some good info about the reliability of the boards, which I really appreciated and which addressed my initial concern.
I just had an awesome session with my Usurf 2 84 litres even better than the model before!
Cheers,
Emile

Dear Emile,

thanks for your message, concerning the U-Surf construction, we were using our standard Wave construction using 2*3mm PVC on the bottom and fibre glass, PVC 3mm on the deck with fibre glass, wood and biaxial carbon reinforcements. For the U-Surf II standard we are using exactly the same lay-up, for the U-Surf II Pro, bottom is made with a 5mm PVC, deck with 3mm PVC, with full biaxial carbon construction.

Enjoy riding EXOCET

Best regards

Jean-Marie

Hi Guys,In referance to Exocet construction I have recently sold my windsurfing shop in Geraldton,Western Australia after starting it up and owning it for 20 years,In that time I sold a LOT of boards and I only ever had 2 usurfs come back with warrenty issues! Both boards were replaced and those boards are still going strong.I think that Exocet are one of the best boards on the planet after seeing what they have to endure here in Geraldton.I now have to pay for my personal boards and I'm about to take delivery of a 3x and two Usurfs (one for my wife).I sail in some hardcore locations(Hells gates,Sunset beach,Coronations,Gnaraloo) and I have total confidence in these boards.I'm about to head to Gnaraloo I'll keep you posted
