Alejandro Sanchez
I began diving and windsurfing in Alicante, Spain, during my time as a Spanish Army officer stationed at the Spanish Special Forces Headquarters in the city. After obtaining my Ph.D., I moved to the U.S. with a NATO scientific grant. There, I was appointed as a postdoctoral fellow at MIT, where I frequently dived in the Cape Cod area and became a member of the MIT windsurfing team. During my time on the team, I spent two seasons competing in windsurfing and participated in the U.S. Extreme Games (X Games).
Back in Spain, I continued my professional career in the field of science while maintaining my passion for diving and sailing. Specifically, I began sailing in Formula Windsurfing and Slalom and was appointed Secretary of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation (RFEV) for the Formula Windsurfing Class. In 2017, I was recognized as a Professional Windsurfer and Official PWA Competitor. I must admit that when I started racing, I truly realized how high-performing LoftSails and Unifiber gear is!
Regarding my results, in the 2016 European Slalom Championships, I ranked 18th in the Masters category. In 2017, I entered my first professional event organized by the Professional Windsurfing Association (PWA). Thanks to everything I learned at that event, I climbed to 5th place in the Masters category at the 2017 ISAF-IFCA European Slalom Championships, securing 1st place in the overall ranking of Spanish slalom sailors in the IFCA international slalom ranking.
In 2018 and 2019, I was the only Spanish windsurfer competing in both slalom circuits—the Federative windsurfing circuit (IFCA, International Funboard Class Association) and the Professional one (PWA). I was recognized as a Professional Windsurfer and Official PWA Competitor. After the break in competition due to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in 2020, I returned in 2021 more motivated than ever, with the support of sponsors such as Loftsails, Exocet Original, Unifiber, and GasoilFins and Bellini Surf Shop!
